Sri Chitturi Subba Rao was born on March 26, 1951, in the town of Tanuku, located in the West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. He was raised by his parents, Sri Chitturi Venkata Krishna Rao and Smt. Akkayamma, in an environment deeply rooted in the values and traditions of their agricultural heritage. Coming from a traditional farming family, Sri Subba Rao was strongly influenced by the principles of diligence, humility, and a strong sense of community that were central to his upbringing. These values greatly shaped his character and fostered a broad social outlook. His early years gave him a thorough understanding of the daily struggles faced by ordinary people, especially those from rural and underprivileged backgrounds.
He married Satya Usha Rani and had a son, Chitturi Venkata Krishna Rao, named in honour of his respected father, as well as a daughter, Chitturi Subhashini.
As an entrepreneur and industrialist, Sri Subba Rao has held several esteemed positions, including Director of N.C.L. Industries Ltd. and Managing Director of N.C.L. Nirman Ltd. in Hyderabad. He has also served as Executive Director of Liquors India Ltd. and actively engaged in community service. Additionally, he has led as President of Rotaract and as both President and Secretary of the Rotary Club in Tanuku. His agricultural background has enabled him to serve the farming community as President of the Regional Farmers’ Association.
He was the Founder and Managing Director of Sri Bala Balaji Textiles Ltd., a cotton spinning mill with a capacity of 40,000 spindles. In 1982, he established the Sri Venkata Krishna Educational Society in memory of his late father, which manages four colleges dedicated to promoting value-based education. This educational effort also honours his sister, Smt. Kondepati Sarojini Devi, who died at a young age. The institutions operated by this society include:
Furthermore, he served on the Central Cotton Yarn Advisory Board, affiliated with the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. He also served as President of the West Godavari District Badminton Association. He presided over the Forum Against Corruption Today (FACT), an initiative that raises awareness about corruption in politics and administration through engagement with students and rural youth.
To support career advancement, he established a career guidance cell and on-campus counselling centres to assist students with job placements. These initiatives have led more students to secure positions in reputable IT, pharmaceutical, and other industries.
In collaboration with the renowned international badminton player Pullela Gopichand, who currently serves as the Chief National Coach for the India national badminton team, the Sri Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy has been established on campus. The academy aims to nurture talented and aspiring female students through coaching and training camps. It also offers free and subsidised coaching to enthusiastic children from various regions across the state, providing lodging and boarding facilities for children aged 6 to 15, along with educational support.
To support older people, he established the Sandhya Jyothi Home for the Aged, with his mother, Smt. Chitturi Akkayamma, as the main donor. In the service of humanity, he founded the Chitturi Humanitarian Foundation in 2007 to assist and sponsor poor and needy students for higher education.
Through the foundation's financial aid and support, he has played a key role in transforming the lives of many disadvantaged students, helping them to continue their studies during difficult times and ultimately achieve their academic goals. His vision was to continually expand his life’s work with more milestones in social activism, promoting education and sports, and empowering women through skill development and career opportunities. His goal was to create a society characterized by peace and ultimately contribute to the nation's prosperity.
